Derriford Hospital is part of Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust - the largest hospital trust in the South West Peninsula. More than 48,000 people pass through the main entrance of Derriford Hospital in a week and the hospital has almost 900 beds.
Like many hospitals, Derriford needed to provide refreshments and food in their A&E Department for patients and visitors who were often unprepared for a long stay when they arrived. Provision of vending machines which offered flexible payment methods was a key requirement of the contract.
As a hospital it was important to Derriford to provide information on allergens and nutrition so patients and visitors could make an informed choice.
After reviewing the specific requirements for the location and the needs of employees, patients and visitors, Graddon Vending installed and now maintain and stock Pour Moi and Crane Voce, Merchant and BevMax vending machines. These are fitted with readers that accept card and note payments as well as coins and have screens which list allergens and other nutritional information.
During 2014 Derriford Hospital saw an increase in sales of vending products of 25%, with non-cash transactions accounting for 30% of all the sales.
