Graddon Vending come second in basket ball tournament

Thursday 31st March 2016

Tuesday night saw the Graddon Vending boys take a team of 6 to the Plymouth Raiders Cancer research charity basketball tournament. It’s the second year running Graddons have entered a team and after winning 4/5 of their 5-minute games, they were into the final. Having come 3rd last year they were delighted to have the chance at winning the trophy this time around. With their tactics in place they were ready for the battle.

With 1.4 seconds to go and in the lead by 1 point, Josh Zimmerman took a dramatic foul and won the team 2 free throws. Not feeling confident Josh missed the 1st shot. Rolling his second shot out of bounds thinking this was a good tactic to get on the defence however, this tactic did not go down well. After much discussion from the referees and a boisterous crowd, 1 free technical foul was rewarded to the other team ‘The Fridge raiders’. The shot was missed but the tallest guy on the court won the rebound, made the shot and won The Fridge Raiders the game by 1 point.

The Graddon boys could not believe their bad luck but took the defeat like men. It was a dramatic end to a great evening.

On reflection the rebound should not have been allowed as it was Graddons possession after the free technical throw....There's always next year boys.
